The capital city of Georgia, Atlanta, has a rich history and is the center of one of the fastest growing populations in the United States. It played a pivotal part in the Civil War as it was the center for troops and supplies needed on the battlefield and includes sites for three different battles. It was a strategic southern city until General Sherman ordered the city burned in 1864.


Since then the city has experienced war reconstruction, racial violence, segregation, growth, and reconciliation. Through all the struggles, it is now a thriving metropolis with much to offer guests to this bustling city.


One of the things to do while in Atlanta is visit the Buckhead district where the shopping and dining are legendary. Here you can shop till you drop at stores such as Neiman Marcus, Macy's, and Nordstrom, then take a break at one of the areas fine restaurants and enjoy whatever may please the palate.


Another place to visit in Atlanta is the downtown area where you can tour the World of Coca Cola andwatch your own 8oz can of coca cola being made and taste several drinks from around the world, as well as watch a 4D movie about the history of the famous drink. Also you may want to consider the Georgia Aquarium where you can observe many species of exotic fish from around the world. No trip to the downtown area is complete without visiting Centennial Olympic Park which was home to the 1996 Summer Olympics. You can then enjoy an evening of baseball at Turner Field watching the storied Atlanta Braves play. On the outskirts of Atlanta plan a day of amusement at the Six Flags Over Georgia theme park where you can ride several death defying roller coasters.
